He started playing football for Purdue University Boilermakers in Indiana, and played with the team as a line backer from 1983 to 1986. He started his coaching career in 1988 after hw was appointed as a Graduate Assistant with Washington State. He was soon appointed as the wide receivers coach at Wyoming. After that, he worked as the wide receivers coach with Minnesota.

He then moved to the Golden Gophers where he served as the quarter backs coach. After that, he went back to his school and served as the wide receivers coach from 1988 to 2000. He then left the Texas A $ M in 2003 to the special coach teams in Oklahoma. He got his first head career coaching job in 2008 in Houston. He worked there for 3 years, and in 2011, Texas A& M selected him as their program’s head coach.

He worked as the head coach till 201, and has a record of 22 losses and 62 wins. He has 3-1 in bowl games, and in 2009 and 2011, he received an award as the Conference USA Coach of the year. He is also the winner of the 2012 SEC Coach of the Year award.

He worked as the assistant coach at Washington State, Wyoming, Purdue, and Minnesota. He also served as the assistant head coach for 2 years at Texas A and M, and for five years at Oklahoma. He also worked as an assistant under Joe Tiller at Purdue, and also served under Mike Price at Washington.

He played different sports like basketball, football and hockey at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, Indiana, before his fame. He later joined the Purdue University and played with the greatest NFL player, Ron Woodson.
